Evergreen Council on Problem Gambling takes youthful approach to prevent underage casino gambling

Zander character leads youthful approach to prevent underage casino gambling

Evergreen Council on Problem Gambling needed to reach out to underage casino gamblers without the nagging parent approach. JayRay created a radio PSA, posters, splash page, rack card and Facebook, Twitter and YouTube pages to reach out to underage casino gamblers and their parents.

Preventing underage gambling
Evergreen Council on Problem Gambling and the Washington State Gambling Commission turned to JayRay to launch a public service campaign to spread awareness of underage casino gambling and the new fine imposed on underage gamblers.

Don’t be a Zander
Using Zander, the fictitious underage casino gambler, jokes such as “If digging through your mom’s purse is your idea of ‘going to the ATM’ then you might be a Zander” are featured in a radio PSA, posters in local high schools and a informational card. JayRay also created NotaZander.com, which gives teens information about underage gambling and allows them to submit their own Zander joke. To reach out to parents and supporters, such as teachers and counselors, JayRay created a Facebook and Twitter page and Facebook ads to attract fans and drive traffic to NotaZander.com.

Campaign preventing Zanders statewide
Students across the state got to know Zander as the Evergreen Council on Problem Gambling promoted the PSA and Zander materials in prevention programs at local high schools. The campaign also won a MarCom Award for nonprofit campaigns.
