Travel Tacoma partners with JayRay to boost tourism

In 2014, visitors spent $1 billion on travel experiences in Tacoma and Pierce County. Hoping to exceed this milestone and take advantage of visitor opportunities such as the U.S. Open, Travel Tacoma selected JayRay as its public relations partner for 2015.

Travel Tacoma + Pierce County is the official destination marketing organization for Tacoma and Pierce County. JayRay is working with travel writers and local media to develop stories about glass art, Mount Rainier, collector vehicles and other unique destination assets.

“JayRay’s creative thinking puts an interesting, compelling twist on the way we talk about our attractions with the media,” said Bennish Brown, president and CEO of Travel Tacoma. “The fresh perspective will draw more first-time visitors and add to our local economy.”

One example is the agency’s recent “underground antiquing” media pitch, which regaled the out-of-town media with enticing finds from Bob Hope’s golf cart to an Egyptian sarcophagus in Pierce County’s trove of treasure shops.

“We’ve been hometown promoters since the 1970s. We look forward to combining our deep local knowledge and industry insights to highlight Tacoma and Pierce County,” said Kathleen Deakins, JayRay president.

JayRay knows the territory. Washington State Fair visitors learned about the U.S. Open at Chambers Bay in an exhibit JayRay helped produce with Pierce County. Other current tourism clients include LeMay—America’s Car Museum, City of Fife and South Sound Craft Crawl.
