Sound Credit Union and JayRay win credit union branding award

Internal video shows Sound employees creating a “Life Made Easy” for members

The Washington Credit Union League honored Sound Credit Union for a video developed for Sound’s prospective members and employees. The video garnered recognition in the branding category of the Spectrum Awards, the league’s marketing awards program.

Sound Credit Union and JayRay, a Tacoma advertising and public relations firm, developed the video to show employees, in a meaningful and memorable way, how to make life easy for its members.

Titled “Life Made Easy,” the video showed Sound employees in the act of making life easier for its members, including images such as a manager with a big umbrella running out in a downpour to escort a Sound member into the branch. Other vignettes feature employees giving a hot pizza to a member who hadn’t figured out what to serve her family for dinner and offering a soothing hot washcloth. Sound commits these unusual “random acts of easy” in addition to other ways of making members’ lives easier, such as talking a member through the online transaction setup.

“Most business people consider ‘branding’ to be a new logo, tagline or advertising campaign,” said Kurt Jacobson, JayRay president. “Sound is unique in that they understand that branding is really about what employees do, not how an organization portrays itself.”

Robyn LaChance, Sound Credit Union’s vice president of marketing, said, “Credit unions were created for service, not for profit. Giving our members a little special attention is natural and fun. Our employees love doing it.”

Sound Credit Union serves 35,000 members from its 10 branches in the South Sound area.
